Two quotes with similar premiums can leave you with different costs and hospital options. Build a comparison around the exact product, written benefits, and your likely use of care. Give every unanswered question its own space instead of assuming the plans are equivalent.
Check the network by name and location
List one hospital and any doctors you would want to use in your Ecuador city. Ask whether each is included under the quoted plan, at the relevant address and specialty. Record the date of confirmation and ask how you can check again before treatment.
Network participation and payment arrangements need separate answers. Bupa Global explains that an out-of-network provider may require upfront payment and that charges above its recognized amounts may remain the member's responsibility. Its network benefits still operate within policy allowances. Use this as a prompt to check the equivalent rules in each proposal. Bupa Global provider-network explanation
Write down how your deductible works
Record the amount, when it resets, and whether it applies per person, family, claim, condition, or another basis. Ask which expenses count toward it and which do not. Saludsa's deductible explanation describes the member-paid amount within recognized medical expenses and directs customers to the contract for its operation. Saludsa deductible definition
Then record copayments and coinsurance separately. Ask the provider to walk through a sample covered claim using the actual quoted terms. The deductible alone is not a complete answer to what you might pay.
Separate limits, waiting periods, and exclusions
A benefit can have its own limit even when a larger overall amount appears on the first page. A waiting period delays access to a specified benefit. An exclusion removes specified cover. Bupa Global's definitions distinguish these and direct members to both general terms and their personal certificate. Bupa Global coverage definitions
Ask the provider to mark the applicable clauses for hospital care, outpatient care, prescriptions, and any declared condition. Confirm what starts on the effective date and what starts later. Keep general exclusions and any individual underwriting terms together.
Compare three everyday situations
Use the same situations for every proposal: a specialist appointment, a series of covered prescriptions or tests, and a hospital admission. Ask what is covered, what you pay first, what is reimbursed, and which approvals or documents are needed.
Write “unconfirmed” where an answer is missing. Do not convert an unanswered question into a zero cost. If a plan describes an out-of-pocket maximum, ask exactly which expenses count toward it and which remain outside it.
Keep the paperwork together
Save the dated quote, exact plan name, benefit table, contract, network confirmation, and any personal terms. Add renewal conditions and the quote's validity date. A clear comparison should show the tradeoffs you understand and the questions still awaiting a written answer.
